Network Document Scanners

Network document scanners are a must for companies or businesses that need efficiency and cost
savings. The big advantage of a network document scanner over the traditional one is that this is a specialized
scanner able to do fast scanning through an ADF (automatic document feeder) which can take a stack of paper or
documents and scan them one after the other automatically by feeding the sheets, scanning them, and spitting them
out unto a bin. Unlike the traditional flatbed scanners which are not connected, you would need a host computer to
get the scanned images and the scanning speed is often slow because you’re limited to one page scan at a time,
having to manually replace each page. Plus you need more of them because they are slow and people will have to line
up for them.
The extra work for getting or saving the scanned images from the host computer adds to the down time. While with
a network scanner, you can just have the finished scanned document to your email in your choice of PDF or image
format. The perk of having it transformed to PDF format is that you can have your multiple page document scanned
but retain a single multi page file. This is great for having that soft copy of important documents which you
frequently refer to, with the added bonus of “search ability”. The real advantage of network scanners is the ADF
and the ability to send the scanned image anywhere quickly and efficiently.

Network document scanners are quite scarce these days. The selection is very small from
manufacturers to the fact that even though they are way more useful than traditional scanners, their use is limited
to that of scanning. They have no copy function or even printing. That is why companies like Lexmark and HP market
their printers as AIO or All in Ones or Multifunction, which already features a printer plus a fast scanner with an
ADF, but is also already network connectable. So these AIO’s are now capable of anything that the scanner and
printer combo can afford. You do not only have simple printing and scanning, but now you can copy and fax all in
one machine because of the scanner. These machines are great multi-taskers that even though it is printing, you can
still do scan jobs. And best of all is that it is already connected to the network so you can send your print job
from any network connected computer or send scanned items anywhere plus fax function.
So if you just need a network document scanner, it will be hard to find a new model. But if you need scanning,
that means you also need printing so why not have a single machine which can do both? You will save money and
space. Just make sure that you choose the best combo for your needs, meaning if you need a scanner more, you can
look for models with more powerful scanners and lesser printing prowess. Lexmark has some great offerings for this.
Although HP is also good, Lexmark’s customer service is of excellent quality and its printers are usually more user
friendly than the competitors.
